State Mandated Screenings
In accordance with the Massachusetts General Law, the district will be conducting state-mandated screenings for students as follows:
Vision: PreK-5, 7, 10
Hearing: Grades PreK-3, 5, 7, 10
BMI: Grades 1, 4, 7, 10
Postural: Grades 5-9
Substance Use: Grades 7 and 9
Parents/Guardians will be notified by letter of any abnormal findings in their child's vision, hearing, and postural screenings. if a letter is received, it is then recommended that you take your child to a physician for further evaluation.
Parents/Guardians will only receive notification of their child's Body Mass Index (BMI) results upon written request to the school nurse. This is for data collection purposes only.
Substance Use screening results will not be included in your child's school record.
If you have any questions regarding these screenings, please contact your child's school nurse directly.
If you would like your child to participate in the mandated screenings for his/her grade, no further action on your part is required.
